Q & A

Q: Lets say I donate a bicycle.  What happens to my money?

A: We will use those funds to manufacture and deliver a bicycle to a person in need. Since we focus on serving the poor, oftentimes we "finance" the bikes with a micro-loan model; the customer pays an amount upfront and then makes weekly payments. Once the bicycle you donated is paid for, we use those same funds to manufacture and deliver another bicycle. The cycle repeats itself indefinitely, meaning that your money will live for a long time, making a difference again and again.

Q: You are a new company and surely not "sustainable" at this point.  How are you paying for your startup expenses?

A: Hard work, diligent savings, and all of our amazing donors. Caleb and Emily Spear (Our founders), sold their home and business to see the dream of Portal become reality. The combination of their life savings and money from donors is bringing Portal to life.

Q: How can I contact you if I have another question?

A: Drop us a line or give us a call!  We would love to speak with you.  Our contact info is listed below.

Q: Is my donation tax deductible?

A: Yes!  We are a registered 501c3 organization in the USA and donations made in the USA are tax deductable.

Q: What are your thoughts on sustainability?

A: Sustainability is a great topic, and while covering our costs is important to us, creating opportunities for the poor will always take precedence. Could we eventually be sustainable? Probably, but there will always be more needs than we can meet on our own. We want to serve as many people as possible, and your support helps us do just that.

Q: I have heard of the 100% charity model.  Are you a 100% charity?

A: We love the 100% model.  Basically, a 100% charity has a group of "private" donors that cover all of the administrative and operating expenses.   That way, 100% of the money "public" donors give is spent on the project or product they have donated to. We are not a 100% charity right now, but If you like this model and would like to help us become a 100% charity, please send us a message.
